Centrally located in downtown Birmingham, The historic Community House provides an exceptional facility for business meetings, banquets, weddings and other celebrations. Offering over 10,000 square feet of versatile function space, the House features multiple rooms that comfortably accommodate 10 to 400 guests. Outdoor events are hosted on the elegantly tented Van Dusen Terrace. An in-house audio visual team is prepared to provide all communication services to enhance your event. Wireless Internet is accessible in all rooms. TCH offers their own TCH In House Menus for parties up to 175. Guests can also select from one of our approved caterers. Event Policies
Payment
A signed agreement and the facility rental fee are due at the time of booking. The facility rental fee includes house linens, set-up and clean-up. Special items, including AV equipment and valet parking, may be obtained upon request and such items shall be added to the facility rental fee. The estimated final balance will be due four (4) days prior to event date. Any additional costs incurred on the day of event will be due at the close of the event. All payments shall be made via certified check, personal check, money order, credit card or cash.
Cancellation
If the event is cancelled, TCH shall retain the full facility rental fee as a cancellation fee regardless of whether TCH rebooks the space.
Catering
TCH offers menu selections of light and hearty plated entrees and multiple breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets for groups of up to 175 guests. If you would prefer to use an outside caterer for your function, TCH Approved Caterers are Epoch, 2 Unique Caterers & Event Planners, Plum Market and The Root. All food service must be provided by TCH or one of these caterers and guests cannot bring in their own food. Special arrangements can be made for clients requiring religious and ethnic catering to be approved by TCH Event Department. Client shall be responsible for food arrangements and contracting with the approved caterer of their choice.
Alcoholic Beverage Service
TCH and the Approved Caterers staff shall dispense any and all alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverage service is only available to persons twenty-one (21) years of age and older who can provide proper identification. TCH strictly adheres to the requirements of its liquor license to request proper identification (photo ID) of any person of questionable age and refuse alcoholic beverage service if the person is either underage or proper identification cannot be produced. TCH may also refuse alcoholic beverage service to any person who in the judgment of TCH or the Approved Caterer appears intoxicated. TCH shall not be liable for the Approved Caterer’s actions or inactions in connection with the service of alcoholic beverages.
Facility Rental Hours
Evening functions shall conclude no later than 1:00 am with the last call for alcoholic beverages at 12:30 am. Start and end times may be amended upon request and approval of TCH’s Event Department. An additional service charge for extension may apply.
Room Set-Up
All room set-up requirements to be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event date for approval.
Non Smoking Facility
Smoking is prohibited in TCH’s building and on the grounds of TCH.
Décor/Displays/Exhibits
The TCH Event Department reserves the right to approve all décor, displays, and exhibits. Tacks and/or tape shall not be used on TCH walls or ceilings. Confetti, Birdseed, Rice, Glitter, and Open Flames are not allowed inside TCH. TCH shall not be responsible for any loss or damage property provided by client, vendors, contractors or outside party for any reason.
Parking
Valet parking is recommended for all events larger than 75 people. Free parking is available for the first two hours in the Chester Street Structure and all other Birmingham parking structures. There is also metered parking across from TCH at $1 an hour (limit 4 hours).
Security
TCH reserves the right to inspect and control all functions. Lessee shall be solely responsible for maintaining an orderly event and providing security commensurate with the nature and size of the event. Notwithstanding Lessee’s obligation, TCH reserves the right to specify security measures to be taken when in the sole judgment of TCH staff special security measures are warranted. All costs and expenses of security measures shall be paid by Lessee.
Shipments
All shipments to TCH should be clearly marked with the following: Group Name, Group Contact Name, Event Date, TCH Event Planner and Address. Shipments will be accepted no earlier than three (3) business days prior to the event. Any special arrangements or requirements will be arranged with the TCH Events Department. TCH may apply a labor charge if the assistance of TCH staff is required to unload materials and/or move materials to storage areas. Due to limited storage, TCH will not liable for any shipments.
