Creating a Training Ground for Young Actors

Sara Smith Productions: In 1987, The Community House hired Sara Smith, a retired school teacher, to direct a children’s theatre program. The group was called the “Popcorn Players.” Sara introduced the excitement and fun of acting and the theatre to children in the community. Several years later, a youth theatre company, Sara Smith Productions, was developed to give children more opportunities to learn and perform. Over the years, this very successful program has enriched the lives of thousands of area children by offering them exposure to the theatre.

In July of 2005 Sara Smith passed away. Her legacy continues through Sara Smith Productions which continues to present wonderful opportunities for children in our community to experience the theater either by being cast in a show or as technical crew members. In addition, the musical productions, which generally sell-out, are heavily attended by grade school and middle school students. The shows offer excellent theatre at reasonable prices.
